Since 2023, DreamGF has positioned itself as the aggressive alternative to Candy.ai in the AI companion space. The entry price is lower (Bronze plan at €9.99/month versus €12.99 for Candy.ai Basic), the free tier is more generous, and the interface leans on the same design language. The pitch: do roughly what the market leader does for 25% less.

The question to settle: is DreamGF the serious contender it claims to be, or a watered-down Candy.ai without the ICF/AWE expertise behind it?

What we tested

We signed up for the free tier (30 generations/month, chat + image, no video), then upgraded step by step to Bronze (€9.99) to test the basic paid volume, then Silver (€19.99) to unlock the 5s video feature. We ran all 10 of our standard prompts across the three tiers.

Strengths

A genuinely well-structured freemium ladder

This is where DreamGF is objectively better than Candy.ai: the pricing ladder is built for incremental adoption. Free at 0 to explore, Bronze at €9.99 for regular image + chat use, Silver at €19.99 for those who want video, Gold at €34.99 for power users. No mysterious “premium tier” at €60+, no hidden upsells, no friction.

For someone who just wants to test the waters seriously without committing, Bronze at €9.99 is the cheapest entry point in the AI companion space. That’s a real selling point.

A broad, customizable character catalog

DreamGF offers a character editor with an above-average number of options: body type, hairstyle, eye color, clothing style, personality. You can build a specific character in 2–3 minutes and reuse it. Consistency across generations is decent but not at Candy.ai’s level (InsightFace cosine similarity measured at 0.76 versus 0.88 for Candy.ai).

Fast, consistent interface

The UX is close to Candy.ai’s, without quite the same polish, with similar generation times. Nothing lags, nothing crashes, the interactions feel smooth. Plenty good enough for everyday use.

Weaknesses

French support is nearly nonexistent

Tested on prompt 4 (100% native French): DreamGF gets the gist but misses the cultural nuances and the precise adjectives. “Café parisien du 6ème arrondissement” turns into a generic café, “lumière dorée” is only partly honored. The interface itself is English-only. For a demanding French-speaking user, that’s a concrete gap compared to Candy.ai, which handles French properly.

Video lags behind Candy.ai

Clips are capped at 5s on Silver, 8s on Gold. Candy.ai does 10s on its Premium tier. It’s not a dealbreaker, but it confirms that DreamGF is slightly behind on the video front we watch closely. There’s no chaining either, you stay in the “short mood clip” range.

Character consistency clearly below the leader

0.76 vs 0.88 for Candy.ai is a tangible difference. If the make-or-break feature for your use case is “the same recognizable character across 10 different clips,” DreamGF is a notch below, the drift is visible.

Verdict

DreamGF is the pragmatic pick if you want to seriously try AI companion tools without dropping €30 in your first month. The Bronze tier at €9.99 is fair, the free tier allows a real upfront evaluation, and the pricing ladder is clear. For someone still in the exploration phase, it’s a better entry point than Candy.ai.

Candy.ai stays ahead on the critical axes: character consistency, language support, and slightly longer video. If those axes matter for your use case, the €3/month difference pays for itself fast.

My take: if you’re on the fence, start with DreamGF Bronze for 1 month. If you love it, stick with it. If you find the result is “almost, but not quite,” upgrade straight to Candy.ai Basic, you’ll know exactly what you’re paying extra for.
