Most AI companion apps are built for straight guys and bolt on a “boyfriend” option as an afterthought. ChatRoger goes the other way. Every companion is a man, the catalogue is sorted by type the way gay men actually sort, and adult chat, photos and videos are the point, not a hidden setting. Once you’re in, the app simply calls itself Roger.

What you get

• Guys, filtered by type: jock, bear, otter, twink, daddy, wolf, muscle bear, twunk and cub are one tap away. Rugby players, bartenders, ex-military studs, a tattooed ex-yakuza daddy, college boys.
• Official and community characters: the ones signed @roger are the house roster (the most popular have hundreds of thousands of chats); the rest are built by users, from sweet to very rough.
• Your own boyfriend: build one from scratch, looks and personality included (100 credits).
• Chat, voice, photos, video: ask for a pic or a clip mid-conversation, get voice notes, or call him live on Premium.
• Shorts and Experiences: short episodic AI video dramas you can watch before you even chat.
• A safe front door: the default feed is tame, and the uncensored 18+ version is a switch you choose to flip.

Pricing

Premium costs $14.99 a month (shown as 50% off $29.99), or $89.99 billed yearly, which works out to $7.50 a month. It unlocks unlimited messages, better memory, voice notes and live calls, your own custom companion, no watermarks, and 1,000 credits every month. Credits pay for the extras: 30 per image, 100 per video, 10 per voice note, 100 per custom companion, so the monthly allowance covers about 33 pictures. Top-up packs start at $9.99 for 1,000 credits, half price for subscribers. The statement shows no adult transaction.

How we scored it

We checked the public site, the catalogue and the pricing page on September 26, 2026, and cross-read an independent hands-on test from 2026 that rates the chat writing above average and the image likeness as consistent. We have not run a paid test of our own yet. Scores on length and languages are low because video clip length isn’t published and the product is built around English.

The catch

• Free is a trailer, not a plan. You can browse, watch Shorts and send a few messages, but photos, videos and a custom boyfriend all cost credits you mostly have to buy.
• Credits go fast if you like pictures and clips: 1,000 a month is about 33 images, or 10 videos.
• Quality depends on who built him. Start with the official @roger characters, then explore the community ones.
• It’s still AI. Generated video shows the usual morphing on faces, and don’t share anything personal you wouldn’t want stored.
