Couple.me is a web AI-girlfriend app: you chat with a companion, get voice messages and photos, and can build your own partner from scratch. It covers boyfriends too. Its real pull is price: billed yearly, Premium works out to about $4.13 a month, well under most rivals. The catch is a free tier so thin you can barely try it.
What you get
- Ready-made companions: dozens of characters with varied ethnicities, ages and body types, each with visible personality traits.
- A companion builder: pick realistic or anime style, then face, body, hair, personality, voice, occupation, hobbies and clothing.
- Chat, voice and photos: text chat with optional voice playback, and in-chat photo requests that spend tokens.
- Image generation: a dedicated page to generate pictures of your companion.
Pricing
Premium costs $12.99 a month, $9.99 a month on the quarterly plan, or about $4.13 a month on the yearly plan (the site shows a “70% off” banner with a countdown timer). Paid plans include 100 tokens a month, and an image costs 2 tokens, so roughly 50 images before buying more. The free tier stops after five messages and does not let you create a companion or generate an image.
How we scored it
We have not run a paid test ourselves: Couple.me gates everything behind sign-up and payment. This review combines what the public site shows (checked on September 26, 2026) with two independent hands-on tests. The more recent one, from June 2026, rates it 3.6 out of 5, with conversation at 6.6/10 and memory at 6.2/10. An older review from April 2025 found the characters rude or unresponsive and saw no reason to pay. The interface is English only.
The catch
- The free tier is a teaser. Five messages is not enough to judge memory or personality, so you are paying to find out.
- Tokens run out fast if you like photos: 100 a month goes quickly at 2 per image.
- Privacy. A tester reported that account data is kept for up to six years after deletion and that an old chat stayed visible afterwards. Don’t share anything personal.
- Voice was unreliable in that same test: the voice buttons produced no sound.
