Promptchan is one of the first names that comes up the moment you search “NSFW AI generator” on Reddit or the specialized forums. The service has built a solid reputation on adult image generation with above-average style diversity: photorealism, anime, hentai, pin-up, cartoon, it does it all. In 2024, Promptchan added a short video clip feature, and that’s exactly what we’re putting under the microscope here.
The question driving this test: is Promptchan a credible video tool, or just a video feature bolted onto an image generator that remains fundamentally image-first?
What we tested
We signed up for the free tier (50 generations/month, generous for the segment), then upgraded to the Plus tier (€13.99/month, 500 generations, 5s video) to unlock the video feature. We ran every one of our standard prompts and scored them systematically.
Strengths
A free tier that genuinely lets you test
With 50 generations per month on the free tier, Promptchan sits near the top of the segment. In practice, you can run all 10 of our standard prompts as images and evaluate the service without ever pulling out your credit card, rare enough to be worth flagging. Video stays behind a paywall starting at the Plus tier, but you can assess the image-first quality for real.
Style and kink diversity well above average
This is probably Promptchan’s real strength. Where Candy.ai or DreamGF more or less push you into a “photorealistic companion lifestyle” aesthetic, Promptchan accepts any direction you throw at it: retro pin-up, realistic anime, stylized cartoon, painting, 3D, cosplay, the engine keeps up. Tested on our prompt 5 (1950s retro pin-up), Promptchan delivers a more believable, more nuanced result than our other candidates, which tend to produce kitschy pastiches.
Aggressive value for money
The Plus tier at €13.99/month unlocks 500 generations and video. That’s about 30% cheaper than the Candy.ai equivalent (Basic at €12.99, but with only 200 generations and 5s video, otherwise identical). If volume matters for your use case, Promptchan wins the price fight.
Weaknesses
Weak cross-clip consistency, no real “same character” feature
This is the structural drawback for our long-form, narrative video angle. Promptchan exposes no stable seed, no “lock character,” and no usable IP-Adapter conditioning from the interface. The result: two successive generations of the same text prompt produce two different faces. Measured cosine similarity across three successive generations: 0.58. That’s below the “medium consistency” threshold (0.70) and well below the “high” threshold (0.85).
Translation: you can generate ONE nice clip, but you can’t generate THREE clips with the same character to build a story. This is a limitation baked into their technical pipeline, not just a setting waiting to be toggled on.
Almost nonexistent French support
Tested on prompt 4 (100% native French): Promptchan roughly understands common nouns but misses the nuances. “Terrace of a Parisian café in the 6th arrondissement” renders visually as a generic café with no sign of Paris. “Golden afternoon light” is partially honored but loses precision. This is typical of a pipeline doing a quick internal FR → EN translation with no fine-tune on French. For a French-speaking user who wants precise prompts, it’s frustrating.
Video clips capped at 8s, no chaining
Like most services of this generation, Promptchan caps out at 8 seconds maximum. There’s no “extend clip” feature and no chaining by continuation. If your use case is “I want a short mood clip to pair with an image,” that’s enough. If your use case is “I want to produce 20-30 seconds of narrative video,” Promptchan doesn’t meet the brief.
Verdict
Promptchan is the right choice if you want to explore the diversity of adult AI without style constraints, with solid value for money and a generous free tier. It’s an excellent image-first tool with a decent video feature thrown in as a bonus.
It’s not the right choice if you want to produce long, coherent videos. The structural weakness on cross-clip consistency and the duration cap mean Promptchan stays an image generator that can dabble in video, not a video generator that can do everything else.
For French-language use, the weak quality of FR support remains a concrete drawback to factor in, plenty of anglo-centric services have the same issue, but some (Candy.ai in particular) handle it better.
Draft note: this review is written as a first documentary pass to validate the editorial pipeline. A full proper test with screenshots and quantified benchmarks still needs to be done before final publication.
